A Series of Mistranslations, 15-minute video.

A Series of Mistranslations is a moving text/video work which groups together translation practices in an attempt to explore the role of the translator and language in the creation process. Using subtitles and translations made over the years for various productions, the work exposes a narrative of participation and non-participation and the power relations and hierarchy between creator and subject. In the work the metadata and markers used to organize the subtitles is revealed to hint at the directing hand and crew behind the camera.

These works were produced as part of the Artist At Work group exhibition which opened online on June 4, 2020. The exhibition was produced by the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center and was curated by Noor Abed.
